Banners

Banners are usually made as huge rectangular advertisements. They are often attached to walls of buildings or fences, installed above roadways, for example on bridges or along the motorway.

Banners are used for outdoor and interior advertising, usually placed in places of gathering of large numbers of people. They can show the way, direct a potential customer to the advertised establishment, or be located in the vicinity of the respective company. A banner advertisement can be supplemented with illumination.

Banner fabric looks similar to textile fabric, but it is actually made of vinyl and reinforced with polyester thread. One serious advantage of banner material is that during production it can be given a different degree of strength or rigidness.

Features of banner material

  • it allows to create banners of any sizes
  • it is strong and resistant to moisture, that’s why strong rain, snow and wind do not damage it, and it can last under the sun for a long time without fading
  • low combustibility
  • convenient to transport, has eyelets, can be rolled up

Banner material may vary in density, production method and intended use.

Production methods of banner material can be as follows:

  • laminated– a cheaper and more widely used method. During production polyester fibres are laminated with PVC film. A laminated banner is suitable for spring and summer seasons, as it can crack in cold. Respectively, it is more often used indoors. It can also be used as finishing of exhibition boxes and stands.
  • coated– a more reliable option, as the base grid is coated with hot PVC and does not start to laminate due to loads. This is a more expensive banner type.

Intended use and features of banner material can be as follows:

  • frontlit (low transparency) banners. Used for production of outdoor advertisements illuminated from outside, for example for night advertising. It allows light transmission of up to 10%, light is directed from outside, as opposed to direction from inside in case of backlit option.
  • backlit (high transparency) banners. A perfect solution for production of lightboxes and 24 hours a day advertising with illumination. This type of banner fabric allows light transmission of 20-35%.
  • blockout (non-transparent) banners. This type of banner fabric does not transmit light at all due to a layer of light blocking fabric sewn between layers of the banner. A non-transparent banner is perfectly suitable for double-sided printing.
  • mesh banners are used in locations with strong winds. Such perforated fabric of advertisement banners helps to reduce wind load.

Density
of banner fabric can be as follows:

  • 280-340 g/m2 – a thin banner for use in an environment with minimum wind load and for banners of small format
  • 440-450 g/m2 – a banner with average thickness suitable for billboards of up to 18 m2
  • 520-600 g/m2 – a high-strength banner used for advertisements with large areas and in locations with high wind load
